In 2009, the house was fully restored. It was transformed from a ruin to a very charming, traditionally styled village house. Just two years ago, it was renovated again to be brought up to more modern standards.
The main entrance of the house opens into a spacious room that has been traditionally and authentically decorated in stone and wood. It is presently used as a living area. The room leads to leads to an atrium, which has both the entrance to the kitchen and a staircase leading to the first floor.
The kitchen has a wonderful piece of traditional architecture in the form of a perfectly restored stone arch. There is also another cosy room adjoined to the kitchen that has been used as a bedroom but is flexible in use. The staircase from the atrium leads to the second level where is a big bathroom and a massive, bright bedroom. The staircase continues on to the roof terrace, which is a very charming space that enjoys beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
Koufi is a truly traditional Cretan village, located just 6 kilometres away from the national road and the vast sandy beach. All basic amenities can be found in Episkopi, which is only 3km away, while Rethymno is about 20km.
